A space for creativity, different perspectives and good vibes
Established in the early 1970s as an East German youth camp, the 3-hectare complex in Grünheide-Kagel is a place of fond memories for those who spent a good and relaxed time at this unique place during their childhood in the GDR. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , the facilities continued to serve young people from the district of Berlin-Mitte up until 2012, when the complex was closed. The space stood empty for four years before being acquired by the Trias Foundation and Trias Foundation and FUSION-Intercultural Projects Berlin e.V. in May 2016.
It has since been renovated to modern standards and can again be used for recreation, art, cultural initiatives and education. The centre is situated in a nature conservation area amidst a beautiful landscape of forests and lakes, only 45 minutes from central Berlin. It now bears the name ZEBRA KAGEL and offers year-round opportunities to host educational programmes for youth and adults, to carry out artistic and cultural projects, as well as to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city in a relaxing and welcoming environment.
ZEBRA KAGEL has been saved from abandonment and decay through the initiative of the Trias Foundation and FUSION-Intercultural Projects Berlin e.V. Through its restoration, it has been brought back to life as a new space for creative initiatives and ideas.
ZEBRA KAGEL offers a rest from the rush and overstimulation of modern urban life. It offers space to unwind and relax and to reflect on the pressing challenges of our times: climate change, migration society, globalization, education, culture, the future of work , changing lifestyles. A space for communication, exchange of forward-looking ideas and innovative and enjoyable learning.
TIME OUT manages the visits of our guests in the ZEBRA KAGEL: comfortable overnight accommodation in uniquely designed dormitories, healthy meals provided by our kitchen, functional seminar rooms, an art studio and a large camp fire pit offer many possibilities for groups of up to 60 people who want to carry out events and projects in the ZEBRA KAGEL.
The space is particularly suited to children and youth groups, for school classes, student project groups and training projects.
The surrounding region offers a variety of opportunities for relaxation, contact with nature, and for activities and entertainment.
